Nauvoo Temple Square

Built in the 1840's under the direction of Joseph Smith, the Nauvoo Temple was partially destroyed by fire and later a tornado leveled its heat-weakened walls.  The LDS Church has rebuilt the Nauvoo temple on its original foundation. It was dedicated on
