Joseph Smith Homestead

This "block house" style cabin was raised prior to the arrival of the Mormons.  Joseph Smith moved his family into the house in 1839. In time Smith added a kitchen onto the north side of the house. The Homestead remained their residence until the Nauvoo Mansion could be built across the street. The summer kitchen which is located next to the Homestead was used as the first residence of Joseph Smith senior and his wife Lucy.
