Carthage Jail

Twenty miles Southeast of Nauvoo lies the historic Carthage Jail in which Joseph Smith was incarcerated and killed in 1844. The stone structure has become an important attraction for LDS tourists. A visitor center and memorial gardens are also on the grounds.
